How old do I have to be to apply?

To be eligible, you must be currently in high school or a college student at the time of application. If you have not yet begun high school, please apply in future years.

But I’m a really mature 8th grader and I’ll be starting high school next fall. Are you sure I can’t apply?

Sorry, no. All applicants must have already begun high school.

What will my schedule be like?

You will work with your assigned sponsor to determine when you will serve. Different service areas have different needs. We do require that you give a minimum of 35 hours during the summer. Please examine your schedule to be sure you have that much time to give.

How do I set up my interview?

Once we receive and review your application, we will contact you to set up an interview. Additional dates may be added as needed.

If I apply and have an interview, does that mean I have been accepted to serve?

Not necessarily. The number of Student Volunteers is limited each summer.

I know someone who served in Radiology/Emergency/Etc. and that’s what I really want to do. May I?

Assignments are made by SRHC staff based on many factors including interest, strength of application and interview and with consideration of student and sponsor schedules. Most sponsors request just one student, so no assignments can be guaranteed.

But I only want to volunteer if I can serve in Radiology/Emergency/Etc. Can’t I choose my assignment?

Please apply only if you are willing to serve in the service area we determine best fits sponsor needs and your skills and schedule.

But the director of Radiology/Emergency/Etc. is a friend of my family and has said I can help him/her.

Again, all assignments are made by us. No priority assignments will be made based on relationships of staff and student applicants.

If accepted, do I have to attend the orientation session? Can’t you just send me the information?

Attendance at one of the two orientation sessions is mandatory. Sessions are offered:
