Rehabilitation Services Infant Child Development
The Infant Child Development team assesses infants and toddlers for
developmental disabilities, makes treatment recommendations and carries out
treatment. Children birth to 3 years of age with cerebral palsy, spina
bifida, Down's syndrome, congenital abnormalities, and many other diagnoses
are treated by our team of occupational therapists, speech therapists,
physical therapists, early childhood education teachers, social workers and
paraprofessionals. We interact with many community agencies to meet
the needs of these children and their families. Children are seen at
the Penn campus, as well as in their homes and at their daycares to enable
them to receive therapy in a natural setting for them. Newborns at the
Santa Fe campus nursery are often assessed by the Infant Child Development
staff to determine needs as early as possible.
Special clinics are held every 10 weeks with Valerie Kerchen, MD, a
pediatric developmental specialist from Wichita. Linda Lawrence, MD,
an ophthalmologist, also holds clinics every month to determine visual
impairments for this population and provide appropriate interventions. |
