Stereotactic Breast Biopsy

Salina Regional Health Center is accredited by the American College of Radiology to perform stereotactic breast biopsies.  We offer the most current technology using low dose X-ray and computer to locate the breast tissue to be biopsied.  During the stereotactic breast biopsy, a small sample of tissue is removed from the breast.  This enables the radiologist to better view the abnormality found or the area of concern.  The stereotactic breast biopsy allows for a much smaller sample of tissue being removed from the breast.

Since 1996, we have performed over 1,500 stereotactic breast biopsies.  The percentage of positive for malignancies found here at Salina Regional Imaging Center is comparable to the national statistic of 18 percent.  The remaining 80 percent of these abnormalities biopsied are benign and present no health risk to the patient.
