White Blood Cell Scan

A white blood cell scan identifies the site of an infection.

Preparation:  There is no preparation for this exam.

Procedure:  A sample of blood will be obtained from you.  This blood will be mixed with a tracer.  You will be asked to return three hours later.  The mixed blood will be injected back into you vein.  You will be asked to return again in 24 hours for a 30-minute scan.

Your scan will be read by a radiologist who will send a report to you physician.  Your doctor will discuss the results of this scan with you.
