Gastric Bleeding Study

A gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding scan locates the site of bleeding in your stomach, small bowel or colon.

Preparation:  There is no preparation for this study.  Please tell us if you are taking blood thinners or chemotherapy.

Procedure:  A sample of blood will be taken from a vein in your arm.  This blood will be mixed with a tracer and then re-injected back into you through a vein. Images will be taken of your abdomen for one or two hours.

The radiologist will send a report to your physician.  Your physician will discuss the results of your test with you.
