Gastric Emptying Study

A gastric emptying study is performed to determine if the stomach is contracting or is obstructed.

Preparation:  Do not eat or drink anything overnight or the morning or your exam.

Procedure:  You will be asked to eat a cooked egg containing some radioactivity, one piece of toast  and water or milk.  Images are taken every minute for one hour.

The radiologist will read your study and sent a report to your physician who will in turn discuss the results with you.
