Back to Different kinds of Angiogram
Thrombolytic Therapy
Blood clots can be dissolved by administering thrombolytic
agents. These medications can dissolve the clot, bring back blood flow and
eliminate your symptoms, sometimes in a matter of hours. These medicines can
be given through a catheter in your arm or leg. The radiologist will first
do an angiogram
to locate the area of clot. A catheter is then placed in or near the clot.
You will be monitored closely in an ICU room during the administering of the
thrombolytic medicine. You will be on bed rest during this period. This
procedure can be done on both arteries and veins. You will be taken to the
radiology department after several hours for a follow-up angiogram
to determine how much of the clot is left. |
