A Trio of Experience

The Tammy Walker Cancer Center is fortunate to have a trio of physicians that have been treating patients with cancer for more than 60 years combined.  The oncologists are affiliated with the Southwest Oncology Group through the University of Kansas Medical Center and are committed to providing world-class cancer treatment for residents of north central Kansas.

Larry Beck, M.D., board certified in internal medicine, hematology, and medical oncology, attended the University of Kansas Medical School and completed his residency and fellowship at the University of Kentucky Medical School and University of Colorado.  Dr. Beck sees patients with cancer and blood disorders.  "Treating cancer patients and people with complex blood disorders is so much a part of who I am," Dr. Beck says.  Dr. Beck has been affiliated with Mowery Clinic since 1998.

William Cathcart-Rake, M.D., board certified in internal medicine and medical oncology, attended the University of Kansas School of Medicine and completed his residency  at the University of Kansas Medical Center.  He began his career in internal medicine, but has focused on oncology for the past several years.  "I began working exclusively with cancer patients because I saw a need for oncology services in the Salina community and I enjoy working with these patients." he says.  Dr. Cathcart-Rake has been affiliated with Mowery Clinic since 1979.

Claudia Perez-Tamayo, M.D., board certified in radiation oncology, attended the University of Illinois Medical School and completed her residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin and a fellowship at Daniel Den Hoet Cancer Center in genital urinary oncology.  Cancer treatment is a family tradition for Dr. Perez-Tamayo - both of her parents are radiation oncologists.  "From the time I was quite young, I was in tune with needs of cancer patients," she says.  "As a medical student, I felt a special affinity to cancer patients.  I felt I could help them the best." Dr. Perez-Tamayo has been affiliated with Salina Regional Health Center since 1990.
