CANCER...
...chances are you or someone close to you has
been affected by this disease.
In the United States, men have a one in two chance of developing cancer
in their lifetime. Women have a one in three chance to develop the
disease. Experts predict that by 2010, cancer will surpass heart
disease as the country's number one health problem.
Closer to home, about 700 new patients are treated for cancer in Salina
every year.
But there is hope. More and more people are winning the fight
against cancer every year. Education, screening, early diagnosis and
improved cancer treatment all contribute to the ongoing process in the
diagnosis and treatment of cancer patients.
This is an exciting time in the fight against cancer in north central
Kansas. Salina's medical community has long been a leader in cancer
diagnosis and treatment. Now these leaders are teaming up to offer
their state-of-the-art, comprehensive services in the caring,
patient-friendly atmosphere of a new cancer treatment facility, the Tammy
Walker Cancer Center.
