Visitation

One of the goals of the Birth Center staff is to promote family love and positive relationships throughout your stay.

These guidelines are provided to help you become aware of your options for visitation.

Visiting Hours - 8:30 a.m. - 8:30 p.m.

The Birth & Women's Center is a locked unit, requiring all patients and visitors on the sixth floor to use a phone to notify our staff that you have arrived. We continue to have security bracelets and surveillance monitoring for you and your baby's security.

Labor Suites: The Birth Center supports the involvement of your family and friends. For your convenience, visiting hours are not restricted while you are in labor. You may choose who you ant to be your support person during labor and delivery. In addition to your spouse/support person, we ask that you limit visitors to two at a time in the labor suites.

Fathers

The father or a designated substitute may visit mother and baby at any time. When handling the baby, please remember to scrub your hands well.

Family & Friends

Family & friends may visit with you and your baby between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Everyone must wash their hands before holding or touching the baby. An adult must accompany and be responsible for children under 12 years of age.

General Guidelines

We are concerned about the security of your baby while in the hospital. To ensure your infant's safety, you and the staff must be responsible for knowing the baby's whereabouts at all times.

You may go to the nursery to get your baby any time you wish.

One other person that you designate will receive an ID bracelet which allows him or her to get the baby from the nursery. No one else will be allowed to pick up the baby from the nursery. Either you or the father (or a designated substitute) must be present with the baby at all times. Never give the baby to someone who is not identified as a hospital staff member.

All visitors should be free of illness (colds, vomiting, fever, childhood diseases). In the event of a community epidemic or similarly related problem, the health center reserves the right to temporarily discontinue visitation privileges.

To satisfy you and your baby's needs, you may wish to restrict these guidelines in your personal visitation plan. If you wish to change your visitation plan, please inform your nurse.
