National Cancer Survivor's Day
Celebration Planned for June 23
(June 12, 2007)- Receiving a cancer diagnosis is not longer a death
sentence. Today, nearly 10.5 million Americans are living with and
beyond a cancer diagnosis.
In light of this the Tammy Walker Cancer Center is joining efforts to
celebrate National Cancer Survivor's Day on Saturday, June 23. A
special Survivor's Day Luncheon is being planned at Trinity Lutheran Church,
702 S. Ninth, in Salina from noon to 1:30 p.m. Meals will be $5 for
adults, $3 for children under age 12, and children under age 3 are free.
Reservations are required by June 18 and forms may be picked up at the Tammy
Walker Cancer Center, 511 S. Santa Fe.
The program includes a presentation entitled "Nutrition, Physical Activity
and Cancer" by Jeanne Byquist, a registered and license dietician and Ruth
Cathcart-Rake a physical therapist. Music, a cake walk and gifts for
survivors will also be a part of the festivities. Interested
participants can call Jim Smith-Barker, cancer care coordinator at the Tammy
Walker Cancer Center, at (785) 452-4843 for more details.
"The event will lift your spirits because you can learn how surviving cancer
is an attitude about life and living each day to the fullest," says
Smith-Barker. "We will honor cancer survivors for their strength and
courage and also recognize the contributions of their families, friends and
healthcare providers.
Approximately 700 communities worldwide will participate in the 20th Annual
National Cancer Survivors Day events. Visit
